Sam came to live with us when he was about eight years old. His new siblings, Matt, Jenny, and Jeff were little then and needed a nice big dog to patrol the back yard while they played. Sammy did his job very well. He loved the kids, but sometimes he knocked them down when he gave kisses and stole snacks and toys! He didn't mean to be a bad boy, though.

Sammy was part Labrador and part Weimaraner. His brown fur was beautiful and smooth. We believed that he was made of chocolate and didn't want him to stay out in the sun too long because we thought he might melt!

Sam loved to eat and was very smart. If he was hungry and noticed that his bowl was empty, he'd just pick it up and bring it to us. Of course he was always rewarded with something yummy to eat.

Sam loved to wrestle and play with adults and kids. He was just the right size for hugging. He never seemed to mind being dressed up in shirts and hats, or even sprinkled with glitter. He loved to lie by the fire with Mummy at night and be cuddled. He loved to take walks with her too. Once when Mummy and his brothers and sister were at the park pond, they fed the fish some bread. Sammy loved to eat, so he jumped into the pond and swam around eating the floating bread. We all had a good laugh that day, even though his manners were bad!

Sammy appeared on birthday cakes and on each of the felt banners the kids made for First Holy Communion. He was also a visitor at school one day. He visited each of his brothers and sister's classrooms. He got lots of hugs that day and gave lots of kisses to all the kids. Everyone loved Sammy because he was gentle and beautiful.

Mummy liked to sing to Sammy and share snacks with him. He loved to ait at the barn for Dad while he worked. If company came to the door, Sam would be so happy! He'd run round the house and pick up everything he could find. Sometimes his mouth would be full of pillows, socks, and toys! We think he was cleaning up for us!

Sam got up early in the morning. We could always hear him flapping his ears when he got up. It was the most beautiful sound we'd ever heard.

Sam's gentleness and love for us was healing and comforting. We still miss him very much.He made us laugh. We loved him with all of our hearts. We gave him the happiest home that we could and in return he took very good care of us. We will love our Sammy forever.
